Americana: Faith, Heritage & Creative Community
There’s something timeless about the Stars and Stripes and the iconic symbols of our heritage.
Whether it’s colorful bunting blowing in the wind or an old, cracked hymnal with The Battle Hymn of the Republic faded on its pages, it always makes me pause and reflect. To be grateful for the freedoms we so often take for granted. To remember countless family picnics at the park or the sound of taps played at a beloved serviceman’s funeral. Those feelings of patriotism have a special combination of nostalgia, reverence, and respect.
The new Americana collections from Kelly Bangs Creative and Kelly’s Americana set for Illustrated Faith with Coordinating Papers are filled with pieces that help us tell those stories in meaningful ways.
This release celebrates classic Americana with Kelly’s signature colorful style, blending vintage-inspired details, patriotic imagery, and meaningful sentiments that work beautifully for Bible journaling, memory keeping, paper crafting, and creative storytelling.
One of my favorite parts of this release is seeing how different makers interpreted the theme in completely unique ways.
Creating Around the Table
I had the pleasure of attending last month’s Altogether Lovely Retreat (more on that in a future blog post). Kelly surprised the attendees with the opportunity to get an early look at the Illustrated Faith Americana collection.
We spent an evening gathered around a big table, fussy cutting and laughing, creating pages inspired by both Scripture and the red, white, and blue.
At the retreat, I met a new friend, Elaine Clark. Over the course of the weekend, I got to know her beautiful heart and her dedication to ministry and service. Like many of us, she came seeking rest, renewal, and space to be refilled.
I asked Elaine to share her Bible page and her heart after the retreat.
Elaine Clark - Guest Designer
“I had the great privilege of creating this page while with women from all over the country! It got me thinking about how differently we have experienced the world, and yet we share this common faith. Our country has seen many iterations, and it will always be a gift to pray for our country and its leaders and trust God through it!”
I love how Elaine’s page keeps Scripture at the center while using the Americana elements to highlight themes of gratitude, worship, and blessing.
Beyond the Bible Journal
The Americana theme also lends itself beautifully to paper crafting and memory keeping.
Krystal may have just come up with the most creative project I’ve ever seen. Anyone who’s ever been on a long road trip, especially with kids, knows the value of a good car game to ward off the dreaded question: “Are we there yet?” Krystal used the vintage license plate ephemera to create license plate Bingo cards, and I am here for it!
I’m definitely borrowing her inspiration and stocking my backseat to keep my daughter entertained on trips.
Another creative interpretation comes from Sydney, who transformed elements from the collection into a festive Americana prize ribbon. Those 3D textures and layers are absolutely iconic.
I love seeing supplies used in unexpected ways, and Sydney’s project is a perfect reminder that printable collections aren’t limited to journals or scrapbook pages.
A Little Creative Experiment
While working with the Illustrated Faith Americana collection, I decided to try something I’d never done before.
Instead of printing the elements on bright white cardstock, I printed them on cream paper to see how it would change the feel of the collection.
The difference surprised me.
The softer background instantly gave the pieces a more vintage look, reminding me of old hymnals, family photo albums, and treasured keepsakes passed down through generations.
For my page, I paired the collection with hymn lyrics from The Battle Hymn of the Republic and focused on the idea of faith heritage. The cream paper softened the bright Americana palette just enough to create a worn, nostalgic feel while still allowing Kelly’s beautiful designs to shine.
It’s such a simple change, but one I’ll definitely be trying again with future printables.
Celebrating What Matters
What I love most about this release is that it goes beyond patriotic colors and vintage imagery.
It’s an invitation to remember.
To remember God’s faithfulness.
To remember the stories that shaped us.
To celebrate family traditions, meaningful memories, and the heritage we carry forward.
Whether you’re documenting a summer road trip, creating a Bible journaling page, crafting handmade décor, or simply experimenting with a new creative technique, the Americana collections offer plenty of inspiration for telling those stories.
Be sure to explore both the Kelly Bangs Creative Americana collection and the coordinating Illustrated Faith Americana set, and don’t forget to share what you create!
